Steps to Follow When Transporting Your Hot Tub Spa to a New Home
Because a hot tub is a heavy product, the process of transporting a typical residential unit to another destination isn’t easy. However, if you follow a few simple steps, you can relocate a large or small hot tub to a new home without any hassle.
1. Gather Proper Supplies
In order to roll a heavy hot tub safely to another destination, you’ll need several tools and accessories. In most cases, you can buy these supplies at a local hardware store. The main items include:
- Tow Straps
- Four-wheel dollies
- One appliance dolly
- Two four by four wooden slabs
2. Clear a Path
The path that leads to the moving van or truck shouldn’t have any obstacles. If your property has debris and dangerous spots where someone could slip, you must glide the tub around these zones. Along the way, ensure that all openings are wide so that the hot tub isn’t damaged during the hauling process.
3. Disable the Electricity
At this point, you can begin prepping the tub for the trip by shutting down the power supply. If the tub has a panel, access it and disconnect the lines that transfer water and gas.
4. Remove the Water
All hot tubs have different design schemes that impact the draining process. As a result, you must always drain a tub according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If the tub has a drain spout, you may be able to extract the water directly on the lawn. However, when a spout isn’t available, you’ll have to remove the water with a long hose.
5. Secure the Hot Tub
After all of the water is removed out of the hot tub, seal the drain with the cap. Then, grab a towel and wipe away any lingering water that’s in the hot tub.
6. Get Help
When you’re ready to place the tub on one of the dollies, you should get some help. Since a hot tub is very heavy, you must hire hot tub movers or recruit three other individuals who are nimble and strong. During the lifting process, everyone should grab a corner of the tub. Then, everyone must gradually lower the unit onto the wooden slab. The wood is important because it will keep the tub stable on the dollies. If you want to transport the tub on its side, position the unit on a furniture dolly. After the tub is stable on this dolly, strategically secure the unit with the tow straps.
7. Handle the Tub With Care
When everyone reaches the moving van or truck, position the hauling equipment in front of the ramp. After the tub is loaded in the van or on the truck, roll everything to the back of the storage area. You shouldn’t try to remove the hauling equipment at this point because the process of lifting and extracting the accessories will be time-consuming.
8. Unload the Hot Tub
Once the truck or van arrives at the new destination, implement the hauling procedures in a reverse order. Then, implement the hot tub setup procedures according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
